about.
SecondHK is Hong Kong's first beauty and skincare product review platform, dedicated to uncovering the truth behind over 7,000 skincare products through ingredient analysis and user reviews. As a UX designer on this project, I focused on creating an intuitive, user-friendly interface that empowers consumers to make informed purchasing decisions. By collaborating with skincare and data scientists, hopefully providing an experience that prioritizes accessibility, clarity, and trust, helping users navigate complex product information with ease.
design approach.
Stakeholder Interviews
Deep-dive conversations with the client to understand their mission, vision, and technical capabilities
Competitive Analysis
I evaluated platforms like Sorra, she.com etc. to identify strengths to emulate and weaknesses to avoid
Audience Definition
Based on client insight, the primary user was defined as a "skincare enthusiast" – someone who is curious, does their own research, but may not have a scientific background. They need clarity, not jargon.
discovery & strategic foundations.

The Visual Ingredient Decoder: From Data to Insight
I transformed dense scientific ingredient lists into a scannable, color-coded table. Each ingredient is tagged by its function and rated for its quality and potential to irritate. This directly addresses information overload. Users can instantly assess a product's formulation without a scientific background, turning a barrier to understanding into the platform's core strength.
Skin-Type Filtered Reviews: Building a Relevant Community
Moving beyond simple star ratings, I designed a structured review system where users can filter feedback by specific skin types (e.g., Oily, Mature, Sensitive) and rate aspects like Texture and Value. This feature ensures users find experiences from people like them, building trust and providing genuinely actionable insights, not just opinions.
A Trust-Driven Visual Identity: Credible yet Approachable
The UI combines a clean, scientific color palette - blue with light purple for highlights and accessible imagery, balancing the professional and friendly tones makes complex information feel both credible and approachable.
